Power Cage also known as a power rack, squat cage, or squat rack is a weight training equipment designed to allow for a safe free workout using a barbell without causing any restrictions of movement. The most important use of the Power Cage is for squat.

Power Cage is made up of four vertical posts with movable horizontal bar catchers on each side. The uprights are linked with the top and bottom together producing a cage. Therefore, a safe free weight workout can be carried inside the cage, since dropping the weight will result in it being caught by the side of the bars.

Power Cage can be used for a wide range of exercises including squat and various over-head presses. Exercises such as Partial Bench Presses, Partial Squats and Partial Dead lifts can be carried out inside the cage. This partial movement allows for greater weight to be used in a safe way allowing for an overloading of muscle group to produce greater growth.

Power Cage Setup

Power Cage is large, usually around 6 feet long, 5 feet wide and 7 feet tall. It consists of set of bars on the sides that are adjustable and used to hold the weight at different height. It also has holders that look like upside down hooks in front to hold the weight and it also have a chip up bar.

What is a Power Cage

Power Cage is a metal cage that allows the safe use of free weights while developing several core body muscles. It also could be compared to the smith press, which allows for safe squatting, and other exercises. Power Cage provides a true range movement when exercising the muscles. The rack offers a safe way for strength training to failure, as it consists of adjustable safety bars that are positioned therefore allowing you to drop the weight onto the bar, when you are unable to lift after muscle failure

Advantages of Power Cage

It allows the use of greater weight loads and users do not have to be worried on safety of the exercise while squatting inside the rack. It promotes quicker development of the muscles due to the extra weight on the barbell. Also the Power Cage is used for different presses such as lat pull up and pull us, but it main purpose is for squat. Since the squat is referred to as the king of muscle development

Muscles of development by Power Cage

The Power Rack develops primarily quadriceps and the glutes, as well as the hamstrings and calves. The Power Cage is completely a lower body work out that promotes quick muscle mass gain if properly done. When training with the Power Cage, it is important that you use the right technique, because heavy weights are used, and could cause serious injury is the wrong technique is applied.

Performing the Squat

Place weighted barbell on your shoulder behind your neck, and keep your back in a straight position, with the feet flat on the floor, and slowly drop down into a squatting position to the knee or below the knee level. Then slowly lift the weight until you are in a standing position

Power Cage Precautions

When using the Power Cage it is important your back is kept straight as it can strain the back. Make sure the back is rounded when carry out this exercise. Also the feet should flat on the floor with the weight distributed between both feet’s and the lifter should ensure that the weight is lifted from the force of the heel of the feet, instead of the toes, in order to completed the exercise with the strain on the correct muscle group.

Power Cage Dimension

The Power Cage is a equipment that allows for free range of motion as you carry out the core muscle squat. The rack dimensions are 120 cm x 120 cm x 220 cm

Squat Variations

Since is the king functions of the Power Cage is squat some common squat variations includes the sumo squat in which the feet are placed wider than the shoulder length apart, but exercise is still carried out in the normal process, also is the ass to grass squat, in which your range of motion extends down as far as you can go, until almost reaching the floor.
The front squat is carried out by placing the barbell placed in front of the chest as versus behind the shoulder and the movement still remains the same while for the dumbbell squat carried out using the same range of motion movement, but the weights are held on the sides, with two dumbbells. Other variations of the original squat still exist but none can development the muscles as fast as the squat.

Power Cage Benefits

Power Cage allows you to train safely with heavy weights in order to achieve maximum results while doing the squat. The Power Cage can be compared to the smith machine, that allows you to squat safely, but the Power Cage is more superior to the smith machine as it allows to larger and truer range of weight motion.
